For some time now I have been developing and working with landscapes. These scapes are not limited to the nature of land or to the nature of the mind. I investigate the mental scape or that which is influenced by dreams and the psyche. I visualize an image from experiance whether real of fictional within the surroundings of my life.
I look for the simple and most inane beauty in life like the architecture and objects rusting in the American landscape. I have an appreciation of a rustic and rural landscape rich with history and unfamiliar nostalgia. The images I see do not always make sense to me, yet they are true to me and alive. These images exist in a space known and unknown and one I create.
I wrestle with space and it is this space that I work within and explore. There is something about the feeling of walking through miles of uninhabited land surrounding you. Forest, prairie, or desert empty and void of human interaction, and complete with beauty. It is that feeling of space that I inhabit and try to translate. Another exploration in my work is of human control and manipulation. Both inhabit each other although are not always connected in my work, but often points of intrigue and examination.
A certain mystery surrounds all substances no matter how familiar, unfamiliar, or seemingly absolute. As with signs and symbols that invade my space in every walk of life I wish to transform them into another space and represent them within or as a landscape. A landscape not only of an organic nature, but of human nature often starting poetic as text and ending visually with texture.
